Post Graduate Teaching and
Training Programme:
- PG Curriculum updated
with specified timeframe in
consultation with allied
clinical departments.
- Posting in different
specialties as per PG
Programmes.
- Course content modified
to include certain important
topics required for the
training of postgraduates in
Microbiology:
- Quality
Control/Quality
Assurance in diagnostic
microbiology.
- Hospital Infection
- Emerging infections.
- Post Graduate students
have been posted in clinical
departments, Medicine &
Pediatric, BPKIHS.
- One PG student submitted
MD theses.
- PG programmes are
regularly being held. These
are
- Regular discussions
with the consultant
faculty in the
laboratory during
routine reporting.
- Journal club by
members of the faculty
and PGs. Total number

Interdepartmental -Post Graduate
Teaching |
- Faculty members are
co-guides for PG theses at
present of which twelve have
been submitted and six are
ongoing.
- Postgraduates from other
allied specialties are
posted in the department for
their training.
- Inter departmental
seminars viz Microbiology
and Surgery are held on
every 4th Wednesday of every
month. Microbiology and
Pediatric/ Dermatology /
Medicine seminars are also
done as when require.

Patient Care Services:Dept.
of Microbiology is a
service department,
which undertakes
diagnostic laboratory
services for the
Hospital, catering to
the population of
Eastern Nepal and this
is imparted mostly
through Central
Laboratory Services of
the Institute
Routine and
emergency services:
The department routinely
monitors water sources
in the campus and water
samples sent from out
site BPKIHS to test
suitability of the water
for drinking proposes.
Diagnostic tests for
Bacteria, Viral,
Parasite, Fungal
infections e.g. JE,
Malaria, Kala-azar, HIV
etc
