Teaching Activities |
The
undergraduate students of MBBS
course attended surgical wards
for case based learning, small
group discussion, the surgical
outpatient clinic and the
operation theaters. BDS students
also attended the surgical wards
and outpatient clinics for case
based learning. The OT
Technicians were posted in
surgical ward for a period of 15
days in rotation to undergo
training in wound dressing and
basic surgical principles

Postgraduate Academic Program
--------------------------------------
The postgraduate programme
consisted of 0800 - 0900 hours
morning session where the junior
residents presented clinical
cases, discussed common topics
with review of literatures and
conducted journal clubs along
with the senior residents. They
also participated in the
operative management of
different cases to acquire basic
surgical skills by assisting in
different major routine
operative procedures in the
daytime. They visited outpatient
clinics and examined patients as
part of the teaching learning
activity. In the morning and
evening they took ward rounds
with the faculty and the senior
residents and involved
themselves in the management of
the patients. Apart from this
entire routine schedule they
performed emergency operations
under the supervision of senior
residents and had 24 hours
emergency duties twice a week
and two weekends calls a month.
The department of Surgery is
also involved in the teaching
learning activities of junior
residents from the department of
family medicine. These residents
are posted with us for period of
four months where they are
actively imbibed into the system
of teaching learning and are
involved in the management of
the surgical patients. Over the
last year the surgical
department's academic session
held in the morning hours has
been mentioned table (see side)
